I did this super fun hair color on one of my younger clients back in June and I am in love! Her hair was a natural level 6 so I had no problem in lifting her hair to a 10+.
Whenever you have a client that is younger than 18, a parent should either be present or verbally give consent in your presence. I always have color cards for my clients so I can remember the color formulas, but also so that they will sign the back where I have a consent form for them telling them that if something happens to their hair, that they understood beforehand the risks of chemicals on the hair.
For this client she had virgin hair so getting her hair to lift was super easy and fast. The pictures she showed me were balayages with yellow deposited on them, so that is exactly what I did.

The way I started her balayage was at the back of her neck and working my way up to her crown. I prefer using foils when I balayage because it gives me more control over the hair and also a more controlled lift. Because I was wanting to lift her to a level 10, I used foils so that I could get her to that level without damaging her healthy strands and also so I could lift her in a shorter amount of time. I used long foils that come in a roll so I could easily rip, saturate her hair in lightener, and then place another foil on top. This saved me time, energy, and foils. We cut about six inches off before we started and the picture above is after the cut, so she still had a really good long length of hair and she had a lot of it!
I used 30 volume developer with Joico Blondelife Creme Bleach and saturated her ends, feathering my way up to about an inch and a half from her scalp. My client did not want any yellow on her scalp so I made sure to never go up to her roots. I feathered the lightener pretty close to her roots at her bottom sections and as I worked my way up I parted bigger panels and did not bring the lightener as high to her roots. When I was approaching towards the top of her head, I feathered a deep V on the panels and brought the edge of the V very close to her root to give her more of a natural effect because I did not want her hair too look like her yellow was grown out. I left no hair out any of her foils so that her yellow would really pop in kind of that neon bright way. Leaving hair out of the foils would of made it look dingy and faded. For her side panels I used the same technique as the back and made very subtle money pieces, being careful not take too big of sections all the way to her root. I let her process for about 25 minutes without heat and then washed her out.

The next step I took was to use a filler on her hair and to really make her yellow pop. I ended up using Redken Shades EQ 'Yellow Kicker' as her filler. After I rinsed out her filler I saturated her lightened strands in the Joico High Intensity color 'Yellow' and let her process for 25 minutes. I washed out her hair, blowdried it and styled!
